About Us

HOW MINNOVATE WORKS

Each semester, our group puts on the following events:

  • Brainstorming Event: No idea is a bad idea! Get in a creative mindset and get practice using a common brainstorming method useful for senior design or any problem solving.
  • Networking Event: Industry professionals connect with students in a relaxed atmosphere, keeping students up to date with industry trends.
  • Resume Workshop: One of Minnovate's goals is to get its students a step closer to their dream career, so our Officers (and even industry pros) will hold this event to help you get that interview.
  • Innovation Challenge: We want to promote a culture of innovators and entrepreneurs at the U. Through real-world prompts, participants will design an idea that can help solve real problems facing society today.
  • Industry Readiness Program (Spring only): Classes won't teach you everything you need to know for your future career. In weekly meetings, students develop a product idea and turn it into a prototype, simultaneously learning skills that will prepare them for work post-graduation.
  • Any other event: Tell us what you want to see or what would be helpful to you!

    FAQ

    • The Industry Readiness Program is an immersion into what the professional engineering process will look like. Meeting every week in the Anderson Innovation Lab, we will pair students into groups and each team will work to develop a prototype over the course of the semester.

    • As a member of Minnovate, you will be able to work on projects ranging from CAD and 3D Printing to Arduinos and sensors. You will learn about the engineering process and refine your soft and networking skills at the same time, giving you a leg up come interview time.

    • Joining Minnovate will help prepare you for the Innovation Challenge, a friendly competition that happens each semester. Each iteration of the Innovation Challenge focuses on three or four new prompts. Students, working individually or in groups, choose a prompt and spend a few weeks designing a solution, which they will then present to a panel of industry professionals on (friendly) competition night. Past years have had focus in healthcare, app development, industrial engineering, and sustainability.

    • While the Industry Readiness Program occurs during the Spring, our Fall program can consist of networking events, brainstorming sessions, case studies in conjuction with NOBE, mock interviews, and the Innovation Challenge. We are committed to preparing you for a successful career beyond college!

    • Click the "Join Us" button at the top and fill out the "Get 2 Know" form. Once submitted, one of our Officers will get in touch with you.

    • There isn't a difference! The Innovation Challenge used to be called Minnovation Challenge. We decided one portmanteau was enough!
